I dragged ES to go Chean's place bright and early to catch the Chinese Tea Ceremony. I never want to miss this part of the wedding coz it's like the most symbolic.
Heard chean's mum telling her, “长大了哦。。不可以任性了知道吗?”
She told Khai, “我的女儿交给你了,不可以欺负她啊。”
Such simple words which many might dismiss as naggy and old-fashioned when first heard.
When you pause for a second and think, aren't these the secret wishes of all parents? Firstly, to see them grow up and nurtured into matured and sensible adults. Secondly, the happiness to be able to entrust their kids into the hands of another whom you know will take good care of her/him.
The wedding banquet was just a typical, must-do ritual to inform people that you're married, a format to follow as part of following the laws of social norm.
The solemnisation ceremony at the banquet I thought injected some kind of meaning into the mass eating. Chean cheekily cracked a joke at the point where she had to answer "I Do". She said in Chinese, "我可以考虑一下吗?". Her parents' hearts might have skipped a beat. haha. naughty gal. I'm so happy for you.
