Malacca Trip 16-17 Aug 2008

Been busy since I returned from Malacca. Urghz. Everything seems to happen all at the same time. doshite. mochi san will get thru this!! ganbarimassho!!

40 crazy pple set off from HSO. one of the biggest tour group i've ever gone with! Thanks to my department who organised this trip.. I paid only 90 bucks as staff.. and it's 140 for family n friends. it's so cheap for a stay in Malacca Holiday Inn.

The trip started off me going totally gaga over little louis, my colleague's kid. he's so cheeky!! posing so readily in different positions when he saw us shooting him...potential air steward.

Interesting jonk at Jonker street... Jonk means junk in Dutch. Malacca was previously a dutch colony? British colony.?? sorry..my history fail..hahaha... zhen jie! correct me..my first answer is dutch!~

start of olympics 2008

going ahmad's place for a swim later and than indulge in our fave roxy steamboat. yep. we look like casts of some HK drama where they'll always eat steamboat in gatherings.

switched to olympics channel last night and watched the womens' volleyball, USA vs Japan. the angmohs were strong in their strikes and being smaller in built, nihonjin can only win by skills and tactics. I was very impressed by japs' defence. The way they went all out to save the ball, sprawling all over the floor at the end of each save. amazing. and they dun get hurt when they fall. always wonder how they do that.

They lost but I think it was a graceful exit.

Sakunthala Palace..ah long's treat!

must be the first time hearing ah long giving a treat. yeah...he did! nice ah long la. heh. He chose to go Sakunthala located at Race Course Rd as ah long loves indian food. compared to banana leaf and muthu's curry, it's really quite good but definitely not for those on a diet.

~itadakimasu!~ ~ a rare scene.. yummy food neh. ah lian tucking into the gobi dish..think it's some fried brocoli.. my fave indian dish..~ ~ the curry fish head gravy was of the right texture. I was almost drinking it like soup.. ~ ~ love the small side dishes.. more pls. except I was too full from the old chang kee curry puff and popiah from my breakfast..~

attended body combat at California fitness with my colleagues using the UOB card privilege. first time in 4 years since I had the card. hah.. it's really a heart pumping workout. the crowd was super onz...doing the "har! hur!! " with every kick and punch. i was shocked. the kickboxing classi attended at SSC, the people were more reserved..the most we could manage was a giggle when we find that the moves were funny when executed by us.

The instructor was a commando. shout and shout though we really had a good workout. still prefer juliana who incorporates fun and variety into the kickboxing. maybe I should sign up again. My body is aching like mad. really aching like mad. can't lift up my arms and my shoulder ache is 10 times worse now. sigh. abit inmobile now.

shall just slack and watch tv today. that's the most I can do in this condition.

Count on me Singapore!!! happy NatiOnal Day mina san!

TamPoPo - Liang Court Level 1

me and my colleagues went for lunch at TamPoPo which we've heard lots about. esp their famous Black Pig Shabu Ramen. pardon me, but the name to me sounds pretty takglam.. not a porkified person so the name really doesn't appeal to me.

Well, it was nothing great. I din like the food there and would much prefer my good ole ajisen. We ordered 3 diff types of ramen and the ingredients were pathetic. Most of the ramen are infested with vege and nothing else. the pork slices are so thin that you probably have to squint to spot it and use a net to scoop it up. Eve and Ann both agreed that we'll never go back there.

but the place is nice and high tech and we saw cassandra see.

~ the miso ramen I ordered. the only substantial ingredient is the hard boiled egg with flowy yolk. 3/5 stars~

~ the Black Pig Shabu Ramen. Spring Onions more than the meat. The Soup base has this strong gross porky taste. yes, it's written in the menu clear and big - the soup is made by boiling pork bones for 2 days.... shucks. no need boil so long rite... 1/5 stars~

~ some chilli oil ramen with 1 pork slice. no comments. taste too normal liao. 2/5 stars~

~the most interesting part of our whole meal was observing how this conveyor belt delivers your order to your table automatically. There's a sensor which pushes the plate or bowl into passage belt that is built onto your table top. pretty cool!~

Dim Sum @ Peach Garden

celebrated chichi and ototo san's bday today. decided to treat them to Peach Garden located at OCBC Centre 33rd Floor. Tried the dim sum there before and thought standard not bad. Bring your parents there, they'll love it. yummy. OCBC cards get a 10% off total bill and OCBC platinium and titanium cards get a 15% off. heh.

Been blogging about food. A testimony of how much I've been eating. And I still feel like eating durian. can you believe it.

~the carrot cake is oishii!! nicer than HK dim sum carrot cake..heh. i prefer localised taste~

~ the char siew soh is soft and crumbly. Melts in your mouth almost immediately.. sugoi!!~

~ my dad's photography skills.. super focus on the sauce plates..~

~super yummy prawn siew mai.. QQ to each bite. full marks! one of the best I've eaten.~

~ mochi is trigger happy.......ANYwhere.~

chichi san brought mama san to see singapore flyer...so we drove along esplanade area to catch a glimpse of the flyer.

~ taken while cruising along esplanade to show mama san the Singapore flyer.~

Carnivore

sharon san treated us to carnivore. A place which we've been wanting to try but been holding back coz of the price (whether you'll really eat worth the bucks..) and also coz we're not meat lovers.

So. We got our chance. to try FOC courtesy of Sharon san. Thank you!

But we walked out so super bloated and so totally grossed out with the sight of chunks of meat delivered to our plates. We couldn't really stand the sight of the guys holding the grill sticks speared with fish, chicken, ham, chicken heart, beef, lamb...eeeks.

we had to take cover. After eating, we couldn't even sit for a moment to chit chat. We just wanted to leave the place asap. The smell, the sight of meat really puts us off. All of us agreed that the meaty and salty meal caused us severe indigestion.

Despite the ordeal, I still did my usual photo taking in memory of it.

~this cheezey dough ball tasted real good.!! err...ya..ask what i'm doing in carnivore..~

~zhe's spread of chopped up meat...she insisted on trying everything but ate like a quarter of all... ~
~the spread of salad... our favourite!~

~ the fish which ES and everybody else talked about... i don't find it fantastic though~

~partaking our food... we're like so full barely half hour into our meal...~

~ see the chunk of ham....gross~

~ sharon san enjoying her butter kailan.. she ovetook as u can see. waste food!~

In short, not a good place if you can't eat much and you don't really eat much meat. Good place for hungry NS men or guys in general. Let's just say it's for a once in lifetime experience..I will not return to Carnivore.

eat-ing and movie-ing

Caught Money No Enough 2. lots of hokkien which I like. Dialects make movies more close to heart. At one very sad part of the movie (details censored so that won’t kill your interest), I was watching very intently with tears welling up a little ( I was crying much more in the previous scenes).

Then, ES grabbed me, flunked his head to the side and I saw him uncontrollably sobbing, at the same time, trying to lower his sobbing to the lowest volume. He choked and asked me for tissue. I rummaged my bag for tissue and my emotions were gone after the commotion. Hahaha. I was sad. WAS la.

That wasn’t the first time. He gets particularly emotional when it comes to family related stuff. Family man? Heh.

Had dinner at HotPot Culture at Marina Square Centre Stage. We originally tried to curb our food intake by ordering ala carte which came with a plate of pathetic rojak raw food. ate halfway and couldn't stand the temption of everyone else who ordered the buffet. so. we upgraded to buffet. haha. there goes our diet plan.

The buffet spread was good. The cooked food was amazingly tasty. Yum. It’s 19.90 per pax which comes with dessert fondue. Really getting old. Can never eat buffet like in younger days. Which is good I guess. What am I complaining. Ate some vegetables, fish and soup..full liao.

~ the grilled fish... one of the buffet ala carte items...super oishiii ne. a must order!!!~

Metabolism and system really slowing down. Soon, it’ll gain rust, then we’ll have to oil it. Until the point when greasing it doesn’t work, we’ll have to change spare parts. When even changing spare parts don’t work, we’ll better start praying hard.

Aiyo. Why so morbid. The sleepiness I’m experiencing is contributing to my morbidity (if there’s such a word).

more food pics..food. yes. my brain fuel.

~the good ole buffalo wings at Billy Bombers...we ordered the spicy one which was wrong. made the same mistake twice. The tangy flavoured one was the one we wanted to order.. anyhows, sinful food always taste so good regardless...just that the right one might have tasted even better.~

~potato skins w bacon n cheese at Kim Gary... errr..not so oishii ne.~
