We got 免死金牌

urgh. the piggified instinct goaded me not to go for the GE run. This is 1st time I signed up for such a run and the reason why I never signed up before? I find it a chore to travel all the way down to town, with the crowd, early on a sunday morning, just to run together with a crowd.

I hate crowds! so why pay money to run with crowds?! since maria jio, decided to just try but nope. didn't work.

babu, maria and myself ended up in partyworld instead..as usual. we love the bishan partyworld. not in town, not as crowded and got our favourite yami yogurt in junction 8. We had a super huge room this time round where we made a part of the room our stage, showcasing our dramatic gestures when belting out "Onion" and "I'll never break your heart" and all the ah-mei hits.

Babu decided to apply for the 免死金牌VIP card since we patronise the ktv so regularly. $10 for 10% discount. better than nothing la. They improved the design of the card abit so that it looked abit less ching chong. But it's still 90% ching chong.

Had dinner at sakae sushi and ES joined us for dinner.. somehow we are never sick of nihon no ryori.

Caught a late night movie with ES, The High School Musical.. left with not much choice. Show was okay, abit too teeny bopper for me.

That was my Sunday. It's back to work again tomorrow.. another week of fire-fighting.

Happy Deepavali mina san!

LIA days

mochi san has been staying home this week.. like really everyday. minus the 2 days of MC when I'm forced to stay home, I was home the remaining days as well. Easily tired and only attracted to LIA - low impact activity.. such as walking to the fridge to and fro and turning on terebi.

LIA. hmm..can conveniently be added on to Singlish Dictionary! adding to our list of LOR, LEH, NIA,..... here comes LIA!

Realised I saved quite a bit of okane as well. Since I barely have the strength to go out for lunch, I order in from my clubhouse and enjoy a 20% discount when I make a phone advance order for my hor fun. that's like so cool. $2.80 for seafood hor fun. quite a steal.

haiz. but i wished I could stomach more of that Lee Wee Brothers nasi lemak during our Deepa Raya Celebrations in office today.. it was just so yummy. the sambal chilli and the rice was enough to make me salivate...but my appetite was just not there..and after a spoonful of rice, my stomach started protesting against the oily intake.

So I saved money and on some kilos as well.

okay...on a less pessimistic note... check this out. At last some results justifiable of my half year hair pulling stunt.

"Size is no barrier to creativity and innovation at LTA"

By NOOR AISHA - Business Times 14 October 2008

WHILE large organisations are generally seen to be less innovative than small ones due to their limited flexibility, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) proves to be the exception to the rule.

Ms Howe-Teo: The award is a milestone in our journey to achieve organisational excellence
Awarded the 2008 Innovation Excellence Award - a category under Spring Singapore's Business Excellence Awards - LTA fosters a strong culture of innovation and bottom-up creativity.

LTA's innovations are wide-ranging - from traffic management and fare and e-transaction systems to solutions that offer the softer and human side of land transport, said Rosina Howe-Teo, LTA's chief innovation officer and group director, Innovation and InfoComm Technology.

Established in September 1995, the LTA is a statutory board under the Ministry of Transport, responsible for land transport developments in Singapore. Its mission is to provide an efficient and cost-effective land transportation system for different needs.

Explaining the LTA's heavy emphasis on innovation, Ms Howe-Teo said: 'In land transport, LTA had to grapple with issues such as increasing travel demand, limited land space, an ageing population and increasing expectations from the public.'

'Faced with such challenges, we had to innovate to ensure that our land transport system serves the needs of our people.'

Creative thinking is promoted among staff in their daily work, she added.

An Innovation Framework was also instituted to spread the culture of innovation throughout the organisation.

For instance, staff are encouraged to submit ideas through an electronic system, eIDEA.

LTA says this system ensures that every suggestion is evaluated and implemented where possible, preventing premature termination of ideas.

Senior management promotes innovation through personal involvement and strategic planning, mapping out strategies, communicating action plans and developing effective management systems to inspire innovation at all levels.

'Ideas can be conceptualised anytime and anywhere,' said Ms Howe-Teo.

Among the notable innovations is a Traffic Prediction Tool (TPT), a technological tool currently used by the LTA to anticipate and manage traffic flow so as to minimise congestion.

The TPT is part of LTA's broader effort to employ innovation not solely to improve its traffic management capabilities, but also to enhance its business processes and customer satisfaction.

Another innovation initiated by LTA is the Traffic Information Platform, developed in collaboration with Quantum Inventions Pte Ltd (QI).

This platform will allow motorists to receive real-time traffic information via portable/in-vehicle navigation devices or mobile phones, in addition to the Internet.

Basically, these applications guide motorists on the most appropriate routes as they travel on the road. These could help them utilise faster or cheaper routes.

These two innovations were featured in July this year during the international Intelligent Transport Systems Asia Pacific Forum held at Suntec City.

Both the LTA and QI are aiming to offer commercial services by the end of this year.

Staff efforts are recognised at two annual events - the Quest for Excellence Day and the dinner and dance.

For instance, the Quest for Excellence Day sees awards being given out for best staff suggestions, best work improvement teams and project teams that have won international awards.

LTA also develops service innovations as part of its outreach efforts to the community.

These include Community Partnership, Community Outreach Programmes, and the KPE campaign on road safety.

In March this year, LTA launched the $50-million Land Transport innovation fund which aims to boost collaboration and innovation in the industry. This should speed up the development of innovative ideas and the adoption of technologies to achieve LTA's mission of providing a people-centred land transport system.

The fund will help offset costs incurred by companies involved in various stages of development - from research and development to test-bedding of new technology and services that could have material benefits for the land transportation sector and commuters.

The fund has helped seed many new ideas for pilot testing and trials, with over 50 projects funded to date.

However, Ms Howe-Teo contends that LTA had already 'built a culture that embraces innovation' long before the fund was launched.

Going forward, LTA hopes to achieve its key strategic thrusts set out in the Land Transport Masterplan.

These thrusts will mould the organisation's land transport policies over the next 10 to 15 years. These are: (a) Making public transport a choice mode; (b) Managing road usage; (c)Meeting the diverse needs of the people.

'The Innovation Excellence Award is very special to LTA. It recognises the creativity and effort of LTA staff in developing and implementing numerous innovative systems that provide a better land transport experience for all,' said Ms Howe-Teo.

'This award is therefore a milestone in our journey to achieve organisational excellence,' she added. "

South Africa 2-10 Oct 2008

been swamped with work since i was back. that's the price to pay when we go on holiday. Well, I tell myself that work can never finish and I have my whole life to work my guts out..so. no point lamenting and take everything one and a time.

Sometimes I really miss times at call centre. Work was just work.. no backlog after holidays..no work to bring home after official working hours. Great work-life balance which alot of companies these days are ranting about but never achieve. When I earn enough money to feed me a lifetime, I probably will go back to taking calls.

just did tooth crowning coz my tooth filling in my back molar was too incorrigibly huge. busted 500 bucks on it and yes. I shudder at the thought of seeing my credit card bill. Trip and all. *shudders*

anyway, have loaded most of pics in facebook but not much description there..prefer to blog it down.

With the blink of an eye, my long awaited trip has ended..for a week liao. Wth. what's wrong with time????! sigh.

When's my next holiday mochi san? Love going on holidays. Life seems all meaningful again whenever I'm in touch with nature and immersed in the wonders of the universe, different cultures and unique intriguing sights of every country. I need this type of luxurious rejuvenation on a regular basis. It's worth every buck.

~sunrise at MABULA GAME RESERVE.. couldn't take my eyes off the rays that were shimmering in the sky.. though not that obvious when captured on the camera..~

~ Buffalo. One of the Big Fives of South Africa. The other four are Elephant, Lions Leopard and Rhino~
~ Cast of SA trip: Sharon san, mochi san, Omelette (aka wee siong...omelette is a christian name we gave him coz he kept eating omelette!), junyi san.~

~ sharon san got potential to be construction worker for my company..haha..no la..it was a 5.30am game drive. we were following so close to the land rover infront that the sand and dust were swept conveniently onto our faces.. we were virtually eating sand. and to stop talking, at least for me, was quite impossible. So we had our starter before our breakfast~

~ the huge rhinos! one of our best takeaways and one of the best shots I've taken of the big five!

~say cheese..wishing ourselves luck for more animal spotting..~

~simba! kawai ne.~
~very tamed young lion. 1 year plus I think. still harmless.~

~ concluded that deers are camera sensitive and photogenic animals..~

~ best shot I could get of a whale sighting from the bumpy coach.. sugoi.~

~ think it's my fave shot for this whole trip. totally cute.~

~wine tasting. looked like i was enjoying it? I poured almost everything away except for the dessert wine which was sweet and nice. ~

~fastest animal on earth...cheetahss. The weather was blaxing hot and all the animals were taking shelter under the shade..~

~some expensive residential area ...can't remember the name though.. a real good place to retire..sit by the sea and watch whales everyday..~

~beaming rays from the sun again..awesome.~

~fatty seals lazing on the rocks. They call this seal island. They distracted me quite a bit but I still fell seasick after that.

~ i was there!~
~a parting shot at Cape Point~

~beautiful coastal landscape of capetown.~

~candid shots by sharon san.. didn't expect the pecking to be so violent. hence...~

~magnificant shot of the table mountain. It is common belief that if there are clouds over the mountain, it means it will rain soon.~

South Africa 2 - 10 Oct - Prelude.

tadaima!

South Africa was beautiful. The trip started off with a few days tour in Cape town which is located near the ocean. Cape town is a scenic and relaxed place. The weather was cooling as it was nearing end of winter with glimpses of budding colorful flowers. Johannesburg was more citylike and very industrial. Soweto was an eye opener with a rich history particularly on how the students rioted and sacrificed in the struggle for freedom and democracy.

Sun City was disappointing as the local guide acclaimed it to be SA's Las Vegas. A city that never sleeps interlinking 4 hotels each with a casino attached. Like real lor! the shops were closed by 10.30pm and we barely made it to have our dinner at Nandos. We could not make any booking for the adventure rides as the booking counters were closed... guess what. they were closed even earlier than the stipulated closing time they stated. wth. the casino tables dun operate 24 hours. they only open at 1pm in the afternoon.

The adventure rides were ridiculously priced and even the most affordable horse riding we did was a ripoff at 210 rand (about S$40 for 50min) after we saw it at S$15 at other places. Horse riding was an experience though and it was really the highlight of Sun City.

well, that was prob the only down of the trip. The game reserve drive was dam relaxing with the wind in your hair and it was a refreshing experience not seeing the animals in cages. haha. Loved it!
Another of my fave experience would probably be feeding the lion cubs.. they were so so so cute and it's like really a once in a lifetime experience to get so up close and personal with these babies.

took 1014 pics this time round, to be recorded in mochi's guinness records. need some time to sort it out. more updates coming sooN!

secondhand serenade - Fall for you

a cheezy love song by secondhand serenade.. still a sucker for such songs la..catchy melody, easy to remember lyrics...easy listening.

Secondhand Serenade - Fall For You lyrics

The best thing about tonight's that we're not fighting
Could it be that we have been this way before?
I know you don't think that I am trying
I know you're wearing thin down to the core

But hold your breath
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
You're impossible to find

This is not what I intended
I always swore to you I'd never fall apart
You always thought that I was stronger
I may have failed, but I have loved you from the start

Oh, but hold your breath
Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
It's impossible

So breathe in so deep
Breathe me in, I'm yours to keep
And hold on to your words 'cause talk is cheap
And remember me tonight when you're asleep

Because tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find

Tonight will be the night
That I will fall for you over again
Don't make me change my mind

Or I won't live to see another day
I swear it's true
Because a girl like you's impossible to find
You're impossible to find
